The main functions and activities of the Directorate are systematic survey and assessment of mineral deposits of the state. The Directorate also strives for ground water monitoring & its exploration for sustainable development of ground water Grant of exploration licenses, mining leases on minerals and petroleum to both public and private sector organization sources. The Directorate is also engaged in the work of geological disaster management like earthquake, landslides and any incidents time to time to mitigate the geological disaster as well as for its better preparedness.
The Directorate supports necessary administration and information to our leases and potential investors. Directorate deals with all queries regarding major and minor mineral potentiality and its mineral legislation apart from its procedure for grant of mineral concessions
i) Detail Geological Mapping of mineral bearing areas.
ii) Core-driling of mineral body.
iii) Groundwater survey.
iv) Exploratory drilling and production well for groundwater collection of mineral groundwater samples
v) Laboratory studies with the aim of establishing mineral and groundwater resources of the State.
i) Grant of Exploration Licenses for minerals and petroleum to various public sector as well as private sector organizations.
ii) Approval of Mining plan of minor minerals.
iii. Grant of Mining leases for minerals and petroleum by the Mines & Minerals Department of the Government of Assam to various public sector as well as private sector organizations.
iv) Optimum mining of mineral resources.
v) It takes care of enforcement and implementation of various relevant Acts & Rules in force by the lessees & licensees of mineral & petroleum.
vi) Regulation and grant of concession of minerals and petroleum as well assessment and realisation of non-tax revenue to the State exchequer in the form royalty,rents,etc. from the lessees on minerals & petroleum produced in the State.
